龍谷大学深草キャンパスは1960年より、大きく中庭を形成するように大講義室中心のレンガタイルによる箱型建築により整備されてきた。
50年以上が経過し、その施設群が一巡した為、改めて次の時代の教育環境、施設のあり方を考え直そうとしていた。
そこで新しいキャンパス全体像とその計画の最初の建築が求められるなか「歴史、環境を継承しながら、新しい教育のあり方を提案する建築」として和顔館は計画された。
和顔館はキャンパスの大きな中庭を囲む構成を強化する配置とし、既存施設に使用されキャンパス全体を特徴付けているレンガタイルで仕上げた規則的に並ぶコアに、動線や水回り、設備シャフトを集約した。従来の閉じがちな箱型建築物ではなく、大学の活動ができるだけ遮るもののない開放的なスラブ上に展開し、そこでの可視化されたアクティビティが立面として現れる開いた建築物を目指した。
The new building will make a first step for this campus’s future
innovation strategy with inheriting 50 years its original history.
It consists of lecture,laboratory and library layers and minimum
walls. This composition brings transparency and opportunities to
touch with student’s activities and also diversity of spaces.
Various activities are visualised due to this building and it will
make a new future campus scape.
